Education & Formation
Becoming Catholic & Adult Confirmation
If you are an adult who is interested in joining the Catholic Church or for some reason or another, were never confirmed, we invite you to participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
The process is year around and you can enter at any time. An adult must be in RCIA for twelve months (i.e., an entire liturgical year) prior to being received into the church at the Easter Vigil. Classes begin in September and are held every Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the parish hall in room 1.
For information about becoming Catholic, Adult Confirmation or finding out more about the Catholic faith, please contact Deacon Sunday Espinoza at 801.255.8902 Ext. 232 or email Deacon.Espinoza@dioslc.org.
Sponsors are always needed! The only requirement is that you love your faith. We will provide any training and guidance that you need.
Catechism/CCD Classes are taught in English language only. Classes are for children from Kindergarten to 8th grade. You must complete two consecutive years of catechism to receive First Holy Communion or Confirmation.
Normally, First Holy Communion is received in 2nd grade and Confirmation in 8th grade. Catechism runs from September to May of each year.
Registrations are done in May for the upcoming year. For questions please contact the Director of Religious Education, Melissa Castellano at 801.255.8902 Ext. 236 or email CCD@sjtwchurch.org.
We follow the guidelines put forth from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in regards to sacraments and preparation. Please be aware there may be differences in the requirements and the celebrations if you are not used to the USCCB guidelines.
Want to Return to the Church? Welcome Back!
It doesn't matter how long you've been away from the Catholic Church, we are very happy to welcome you back and want you to know that there’s a place for you at Saint Joseph the Worker.
Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes we find ourselves wanting what we somehow lost along the way. The wonderful thing is that our God's arms are always open to welcome us back. God never stops loving us and he always wants the best for us. If your being away was caused by someone associated with the Catholic Church please don’t allow that relationship to get between you and the God who loves you. If you feel now is the time in your life to return to your Catholic faith and the sacraments, we are here to help you.
How to Return
You may be wondering how to return to the practice of your faith. If you stopped coming to Church and receiving the sacraments on your own and have no other impediments (i.e. marriage outside of the Church), you can simply make a good confession and resume receiving the sacraments. If you are divorced (whether you were married in the Church or not) you can return to the sacraments through a good confession as long as you have not entered into another marriage. Confessions are heard Saturday afternoon at 3:30 PM or by appointment.
If you would like to talk with a priest first, please call our parish office 801.255.8902 and make an appointment with Fr. Javier, our pastor.
If you are married or re-married outside of the Church, you can speak to Fr. Javier about how you can return to the sacraments. Please call our parish office 801.255.8902 to make an appointment with him. He will be happy to meet with you.
If you were baptized in the Church, but were not confirmed or did not receive First Communion, please contact Deacon Sunday Espinoza at 801.255.8902 Ext. 232 or email Deacon.Espinoza@dioslc.org.
While you are discerning what comes next in your relationship to God and the Catholic Church, please feel free to come to Saint Joseph the Worker for Mass weekday mornings at 9:00 AM (Monday thru Friday), weekends at 5:00 pm on Saturdays (English Mass) and 9:00 & 11:30 AM (English Mass) on Sundays. Open your heart to the sacred scriptures as they are proclaimed and join us in praising God.
Know that we're here to support you through our own prayers and wish you happiness and peace always.
